A little background

There are certain non Backstreet Boys song that I listen to that reminds of them as a whole or just one member. My immediately went to Gloria Estefan. I liked both of them in the 90s. Her first cover album Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me was one of the musical album I bought In 2019 I rediscovered the Backstreet Boys after a long time away , Similarly I recently rediscovered her recently due to her Spanish music If you are learning it, I definitely recommend her varied styles . In addition to original song has done Spanish versions of some of her English songs . Some of those I liked e more than others as translations. She has sung a little bit in Portuguese too. Therefore her release of Brazil tribute album Brazil 305 should have not surprised me.

Why they should work together

With international appeal and similar sales stats you could say that Gloria Estefan is a mirror of the Boys’ success in her genre. The only difference was that she did it in multiple languages. In fact she is called the best-selling female Latin artist of all time . With Miami Sound Machine and solo, she brought Latin Pop to the masses. That success set the stage for the Latin crossovers of the late 90s just as the Backstreet Boys helped usher in the 90s boyband explosion A possible Collab or tribute covers would make sense especially in light of the Boys’ appeal in the Latin market. In fact it makes much more sense than the song she did with NSYNC for this reason.

Possible Songs

I can imagine some of them performing her songs already. For example, If Howie ever felt confident enough to really sing in Spanish I could see him performing songs like Abriendo Puertas or Tres Deseos perhaps with Pollyanna. I could imagine Brian singing Get On Your Feet ,the 96 Olympic anthem Reach, and the reflective Always Tomorrow Her post accident triumph song Coming Out of the Dark reminds of Nick and AJs personal transformation and struggle However, I still imagine Brian singing this one with implicit religious references and gospel choir style backup vocals 1,2,3 fits Nick flirty performance style.

I also wanted to specifically highlight two songs that reminded of Brian’s relations\hip with Baylee and Nick respectively I have thought and listened to them a lot lately.

The first was the tribute to her miracle child Emily released on her 1996 album Destiny. The feeling of surprise and delight definitely fits Brian’s feeling about Baylee. The line ‘Cause baby when I look in your eyes
I understand my one true purpose really drove that home to me . Though I have no kids of her own It almost makes me cry especially the bridge now I know what it means. Given Gloria’s Caribbean heritage, I thought it was in Taino, an indigenous language spoken by the people of the same name from modern day Puerto Rico After some research I found out it is either Zulu or Xhosa loosely taken from a lullaby. It translate Don’t cry mom’s coming according to Google translate. Now replace that the word for mother( mama) with father (baba) it will fit. In fact the original lullaby is about a father.

h Nayib’s song is a plea for reconciliation with her older son originally. However, I thought this might have fit the uncertainty surrounding Nick . The effects of his addiction was an open secret during the Unbreakable tour. I am sure there was some behind the scenes conflict especially between him and Brian. I I watched the London concert from that tour, I noticed they were all worn out at the end. I wonder if the stress of this had to do it .They all sat at various time again wondering if this was try to hide the fact that Nick was not in the best shape during that time. I would have been angry that Nick might have put AJ in a position to relapse especially if he snuck alcohol backstage at one point. Nick definitely achieved what end of the second verse and bridge talk bout which makes all the more fitting. Again a minor lyrical adjustment and title adjustment to fit the different point of view would be necessary, but it is perfect.
