When your own song is literally in store

That excitement when you hear your own song

They say all the world is a stage, but when you are someone itching to perform like Brian Littrell of the Backstreet, even a grocery store is. However, he was not always like that. He and AJ both found the millennium madness overwhelming. Yet, unlike AJ, brian seems more like the type to withdraw. He mentioned that the reaction made him feel more introverted in the post- Kentucky Hall of Fame induction interview. Therefore, I understood if his heart was not it at that time ( no pun intended). The shock of being something so radically different from what he knew was probably too much. Add to that to management’s lack of sympathy after his heart surgery. Consequently, He admitted to wanting to quit, especially after having Baylee.

He favors quiet moments instead of excessive self-promotion, as this recent photo shows. As an introvert myself, I totally relate to that and appreciate that about him. H

When the Chris and Sandy hosts posed my question about the possibility of a Masked Singer appearance in an episode with him and the family, he seemed unenthusiastic about It is a shame, though. The show does cater to his strengths since it is a singing and performance show at its core. Ironically Judge Nicole Scherzinger hilariously guessed him incorrectly as the Piglet in Season 5. The piglets turned out to be another 90s boy band member Nick Lachey decided to appear after an incorrect season 4 guess by Ken Jeong if I remember correctly, So who knows?

But as much as he like solitude (another thing I liked about him he wants to perform probably more than in the early days. Now that Baylee is older, he probably doesn’t have as much to do at home as before.

I think becoming more engaged was the difference between the reaction to his voice problem and the more life-threatening heart problems. Although voice problems would not kill him if left untreated, they had the emotional impact of a career-ending injury. Although his personal identity was objectively secure, his professional one was in doubt. Hence, I was sympathetic to his hiding it from everyone, unlike some fans and Nick in the infamous documentary argument scene.

Nick did not need to stick it to Brian the way he did over the voice problems

Nick justifiably held Brian accountable for keeping his problem a secret even from the group. However, Nick came off as a selfish prima donna shaming Brian for something out of his control. Nick would have sounded more humble if he acknowledged how his own addictions problems might have negatively affected the group, especially AJ, who was struggling with his own addiction problem. AJ showed more restraint than I would have in not pointing that out n addition if Nick’s was voice was more stable like AJs in the beginning, he would have gotten more opportunities. Hence no one ever stole anything from him as he suggested, much less Brian.

I don’t necessarily begrudge Nick’s presence on Quit Playing Games because they have recorded song versions with different vocal variations. However, changing the vocal while filming the video is a decision an uninformed record company bureaucrat could only make. And most likely, it was to cater to Nick’s growing popularity within the group. This was another example of how Nick was not for hurting attention whether he was singing or not.

.Fan reaction mostly stuck up for Nick with no consideration of the other side. For example, a bunch attacked me for suggesting that Nick wrongly expressed his displeasure over Brian’s hiding the voice problem. Their love of Nick just kept them from acknowledging my concession and having any sympathy over how Brian might have felt. This overzealousness, in general, initially turned me off to Nick, as stated in my impressions piece.

About those Voice Problems

I agree that Brian should have rested his voice under other circumstances before the pandemic imposed it on him. But such importance of the group made this a catch 22 situation. Someone suggested Howie as a replacement, but Howie’s voice is not an exact match. His voice is suitable for harmony or backing mostly, which other fans have acknowledged. Also, keep in mind Howie sang Kevin’s part’s in Kevin’s absence.

It could have been worse for Brian, especially after having swine flu. Michael Crawford was diagnosed form of chronic fatigue after a similar flu infection. Laryngitis that resulted from it permanently damagedCrawford’s ability to sing. AT least Brian has recovered somewhat though it will never be 100% cured, And that satisfies me.

Just update the Nick shtick please. It is literally old

Of course, I cannot get over Brian still makes fun of Nick’s prepubescent voice after all these years. I Nick is older and sounds much better now. K If he continues to do it, he should update Nick’s current said on Incomplete. I know fans constantly asking g about Nick’s whereabouts probably bruised his ego because it seemed fans forgot about the rest of the group. But it was understandably very close back then. Nick did get back at him. However, his US southern accent imitation was inaccurate as transplanted Upstate New Yorker. Sorry Nick, even I know as a cosmopolitan former City resident. Regardless I still like them together, and you should be a guest in one of Nick’s live streams, and they trade this kind of banter.
