Demand is there, but for some reason Kevin wont fufill it
As I mentioned in m 50th birthday tribute, many people would want to see Kevin sing solo. He even teased a potential solo album in 2013. My pun-loving heart loved the play on words in the chosen title Cover Story. But alas, nothing came of it except for songs featured on Youtube, such as She’s Got A Way. He even sang a solo version of Back to Your Heart twice. He definitely has the demand and the talent to go solo. However, I don’t think his personality fits it. I just he is happy in the background. I think he chose acting for that reason instead of singing. Even in starting role, you are working with others unless you do a one-person show.
Paging Kevin
Although Brian also prefers solitude, Kevin prefers it even more. Whenever nothing is going on publicly with Kevin during a Backstreet boys hiatus, the fans joke that he is somewhere in the woods. I. In contrast, although Brian’s individual appeal is more niche than AJ’s and Nick’s, he gets more attention than Kevin. In fact, I had no idea that Kevin got married just about 2 months before Brian did, for example. I also think this is why he rarely fronts a Backstreet Boy song completely. As I write this, there have been four, and they came years apart. Nobody But you, the only song so far he entirely fronts) and IAWLT’s Breathe was 17 years apart, for example. Then it was eight between that and the now-scrapped Footprints. In contrast, Brian is the most prolific in this regard. There are at least five Brian entirely or partially fronts.
Kevin, the shy guy
The groupmates call him a perfectionist. However, to me is code for he will never release anything on his own because he is too scared to do it. Kevin seems satisfied with being in the background, perhaps because he was never upfront, unlike Howie. However, I am sure that the lack of inspiration that led him to leave for six years was due to never taking that risk of being upfront.
When you are a perfectionist doing something on your own is scary without someone to fall back on. Both Brian and Nick mentioned how different going solo was after being in the group’s safety for so long. Nick especially said in his book that he mistakingly thought the producers were going to do all the heavy lifting when it came to making his first solo album. Brian remarked that he felt strange not having four others around him when he did the video for his first solo song Welcome Home.
Why not a duet Project with Brian?
And this is where my idea of working with Brian comes into play. I think he might let down his guard a little if he had moral support from Brian especially. Brian successfully encouraged Kevin to release the tribute to his father, Brian’s uncle, which became the title song for Never Gone. I’d settle for them working behind the scenes mainly because Brian might overshadow as the more prominent Backstreet Boys member. I have seen this happen when Brian has done interviews with his son Baylee. T. As someone who doesn’t always crave the spotlight, he would not want to take it away from Kevin However, y ultimate dream would be to see them do an album and/or tour together. I imagine them doing duets and/ maybe some individual songs. In between songs in a potential show, I’d like to hear about growing up together. They have been Backstreet boy’s members for so long, it is easy to forget that they are actually family members.
So What do you think Backstreet cousin fans? Since we have seen it before, I believe this could happen but as I said he probably needs a little push. And who better than his own cousin. Whatever it takes to Kevin to take the musical lead or even go solo I am all for it.
